Setting Up Your Environment

In order to use the Library Management System (LMS) Toolkits in both Mentor Graphics and Advanced Design System (ADS), there are certain environment and configuration variables that must be set. This chapter is broken down into two main areas:

After covering the information in this chapter, you should be ready to begin the process of transferring your LMS libraries from Mentor Graphics to ADS.

Setting Up the LMS Toolkit Software for ADS

The LMS toolkit software is an add-on capability to the standard ADS product. Since most customers are not using ADS in conjunction with Mentor Graphics LMS, the software is disabled by default. However, the code is delivered on the standard ADS product CDs.

Note
The LMS add-on product is not licensed and must be enabled to access the software.

Enabling the LMS Add-on

To enable the LMS add-on for all users, perform the following steps:

  1. If you are changing a site installation, open the file $HPEESOF_DIR/custom/config/de_sim.cfg (on unix) for editing with your favorite text editor. If the de_sim.cfg file does not exist in this directory, create one.
If you want to change an installation for a specific user, open the file $HOME/hpeesof/config/de_sim.cfg (on unix) for editing with your favorite text editor. The de_sim.cfg file should already exist in this directory if you previously ran ADS.
  2. Add in the line LMS_FILE_DIRECTORY={$HPEESOF_DIR}/lms. This line can be placed anywhere in the file. You must add this line, because the boot program for the LMS add-on uses this variable to load other files.
  3. Search for the variable USER_AEL. If you do not have the variable USER_AEL, create a new variable with a value of USER_AEL={%LMS_FILE_DIRECTORY}/LMSStartup.
If the value already exists, add {%LMS_FILE_DIRECTORY}/LMSStartup to USER_AEL by placing a semicolon at the end of the line, and then adding {%LMS_FILE_DIRECTORY}/LMSStartup to the end of the line.
The USER_AEL variable designates AEL files that will be loaded during the ADS bootup process. Make sure that all the values for USER_AEL are on a single line - there is no continuation character.

Once the above steps have been completed, start Advanced Design System. ADS Main Window with LMS add-on shows the menus that you should now see in your ADS main window.

Note
You must restart ADS in order to view the new menu if ADS is currently running. The above procedure is the same for all platforms supported by ADS.

What is Contained in the LMS Add-on?

The directory $HPEESOF_DIR/lms contains four files. Following is a description of what each file is for:

Setting up the LMS Toolkit Software for Mentor Graphics

The following information can be found in Mentor Graphics RF Design Tools User's and Reference Manual , which is distributed with Mentor Graphics C.4 or greater.

The following environmental variables must be set and the listed information entered in the MGC location map. These settings are required to use the RF options and the userware features. Entering this information in the UNIX startup file (.profile for sh or ksh, .cshrc for csh) automatically loads the environmental variables needed and sets the path to the location map. Optionally, you can create a file containing these commands and use the UNIX source command, at the command line, for each individual session. The syntax shown in these examples refers specifically to using a C-shell. Use the same syntax as is entered in the example variable startup file. It is important to observe the upper- and lower-case conventions when entering this information.

Location Map Entries

The following libraries should be added to your location map file:

Setting Up Mentor Graphics on Windows

All of the environment variables that are set up on Unix should be set up for Windows as well. Instead of using a profile or cshrc file, the control panel environment setting should be used. In the environment setup, anyplace you see a $variable, %variable% would be used instead. The location map entries are the same for Unix and Windows.
